Starting July 1, all seaside resorts in Qingdao, Shandong province, will offer swimming services, ushering in a summer season filled with activities such as surfing, beach volleyball, beachside markets, and scenic seaside bars.
These activities have transformed Qingdao's beaches into hubs for leisure, entertainment, and sports, providing a diverse experience for visitors. The "beach+" trend has led to the rapid development of new business models around seaside resorts, enriching the city's cultural tourism and consumer landscape.
In 2023, Qingdao's nine major seaside resorts attracted over 18 million visitors during the open season, with the most popular resort averaging 200,000 visitors per day. By 2024, the city's seaside resorts collectively hosted 27.7 million visitors. This year, they have already welcomed over 8 million visitors, including more than 1.2 million during the May Day holiday, marking a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year.
